The IRG will feature a Dutch Oven potluck at the cookshack area on Saturday Night.
Still working out the "Meat & Greet" night for a Friday deep pit or regular BBQ.            We don't have a particular format such as bringing a dish based on your last name, etc.
So bring what you feel like preparing and contributing to the meal.  We NEVER went hungry at the Redwood Gatherings before and I don't imagine we will this time.  Perhaps we should let you in on a little secret ....       The majority of people currently signed up are actually recovering from, or in various stages of , the malady known as Teardrop Potluck Addictions (TPA), especially of the Dutch Oven variety.

I'm trying to get a handle on some locally caught seafood (fish) but the salmon season is currently up in the air with a reduced amount of fishing days/limits and abalone season closes for the month of July.  Just have to see what's available come summer.

Post when you can and what you'd like to bring.  You always reserve the right to make last minute changes or substitutions.

  After some bantering back and forth and trying to line up all the arrangements, Dean & I have opted just to do a "Meat" & Greet  Friday night BBQ at the Cookshack area and skip the deep pit for this first time.  So many other things will be going on that we decided the DO Potluck on Saturday would bring in plenty of food.  If you have a DO, brush up on your cooking skills, and if you don't....Lee Bryant has graciously agreed to present a DO Workshop on Saturday.  Come up and see how it's done, and maybe you can add one to the fire.

   Dearest Gage,   (& others attending the Friday night M&G)

It is preferred that you do bring a fork & spoon because you are too messy without them.  Also, didn't you tell me earlier you had a special carrier given to you for them?  So, please bring your fork & spoon.

I cannot imagine that a gathering hosted by Dean & myself would ever be short on food.  We discussed supplementing the menu this morning  for the Friday night meat and greet.  We will bake up potatoes and garlic bread in the cookshack oven for all the gang to eat.  This will go nicely with your cut of meat (or other item to grill) that will be cooked on the big grill outside.

BTW...The cookshack really isn't shacky at all.  It is a HUGE place surrounded by palatial redwoods.  Perhaps I should say it will be the "Cook Palace" by the time we are done using it.

   Gage,
I don't care what your wife and everybody else says about you,

in my book....You're O.K. !         That should be perfect, but now that we are approaching the TD 50 mark for sign ups, aren't you gonna need another set?

Nope, I also carry a napkin for wipping off the tools after use. For me, going to a pot luck is like the average person going to a wine tasting. After each taste, wipe and taste another.

Have a good day.

 Okay, bring your own plates, utensils, and what you like to guzzle...err, drink to the Friday & Saturday night feasts.  Also, in the mornings we'll have a Cup of Joe at the Cook "Palace" with a sampling of coffee to try, so bring your cup and some of your favorite brew/beans.  Perhaps we can persuade Chef Boy-R-Dean to whip up some cinnamon rolls for the early birds who come up for coffee and conversation.
We could call it Dean's Dutch Oven Diner.

Good news....Got a nice salmon that was caught in the ocean on the 4th of July.  He's just cooling his fins in my freezer until it's time to be grilled at the IRG.  Dean thought he might do the fist like last year and put it in the lil smoker BBQ with wood chips, but I'll bet I could convince him to grill it using the plank method.  We'll see.....just glad we got some salmon because the fishing (commercial) for salmon was closed this year and sport fishing has been so limited.

Honey,
The plank method is good, but doesn't even come close to what being smoked with rotten alder tastes like.

Question! We don't do DO and don't plane on taking it up in the near future. Does that mean we can't come to the pot luck Saturday night with food in hand to share?

Have a good day.

Gage,
Of course you can come to the DO pot luck and you can bring what ever you want to. Hey, this is Humboldt County... Things are kinda laid back here... Know what I mean?
I'd be upset if you and Tanya ate off in the distance by yourselves.
Now if you two decided to go down the road a little ways and hit Bear River Casino for dinner, that's a different story... As long as yaa didn't gamble all your money away. (LOL)
