There are plenty of good restaurants around the Humboldt Bay area. At the IRG I will have a table area set up in the cook house which has brochures, maps, suggestions of sites to see, etc. Kind of like a mini Chamber of Commerce. Over the years I've put together a binder which has guides of all types in it. There are local magazine style booklets with activities and exploration guides in them. The 101 "Humboldt" Things to do. Where you are going to be...deep in the Redwoods....you are about a half hour to hour away from any truly fancy fine dining. A trip to the nearest store and gas station is a twenty minute drive from the Grove.
Time from IRG 2.0 at Pamplin Grove HWY 36 to Eureka is about 45-55 minutes. The corridor from HWY 36 to 101 North has been under construction so it can vary depending on time of day and weather. There are many great dining establishments along the way and in town by the Bay. Come see me or PM me if you want to locate a special restaurant.
Thanks -- TDN

Never was much for the 'truly fine dining' type of establishments, I always seem to wind up at Micky D's or some place afterwards looking for something to eat. I prefer places that give you a plate full of food at a reasonable price. I have found that eating in bar and grilles is often the best choice. Good food and they generally don't care what kind of clothes you wear!

If you like non-fancy, then the junction at Hwy 101 and Hwy 36 has Hansen's, which is still a real, honest to goodness Truck Stop with cheap food, and cash only gas (unless you are a local on their list). TDN

wow...you guys are the best. By the time we go through the mini chamber of commerce in the cook shack we might not even act like we don't know where we are going or what we want to do.
Thank you for all your work to make the out of state folks welcome.
July is just too far off.

Rich, I'm with you on the scraping up money.....I've started putting a little away but not near enough yet. I've guestimated our gas will be around $1300 or so.
Ok. it is February now. I think that means July is closer.

We are really stoked that so many of you are willing to do a long haul out to the redwoods. I told Dean the other night, "For what people are paying in gas, you and I could take a trip to Hawaii or Mexico for that price!" So thanks for jumping on board so quickly and enthusiastically. We aim to please and hope you'll find the REDWOOD Experience everything you hoped it would be. I've been busy gathering items for the event and last night I purchased some raffle prizes for it. Yes, July will come sooner then we think! Joanie :veryhappy:

Ya, well nobody's allowed to laugh at me when I lay down on my back and take a picture up at the trees. My little sister (she's 33) is so jealous that we are going there and not taking her that she made me promise to lay down and take a picture and I'm not allowed to cheat and just look up and snap one!  She wants to go see them in the worst way. I guess it runs in the family, we grew up taking a trip around the country once a year, just never made it to Calif.

Just don't lay in the middle of the road when your getting your shot. I know that sounds silly, people do get run over doing that around here. Well I may have been born with a few screws loose but that wasn't one of them. I only get run over by cars I'm workin' on! (long story)
