Bull Creek

A great place to go to take photos showing how small people are compared to redwood trees is Bull Creek, located right next to the Avenue of the Giants in the Rockefeller Forest.
Dyerville Giant
The Dyerville Giant fell to earth on March 24th, 1991 and has become more famous since falling to earth. The tree has a diameter of 17' and a circumference of 52'. This tree stood 200' taller than Niagara Falls. The fallen giant is located in Founders Grove along the Avenue of the Giants.

Can you find the people in these two shots?...  Both of these sights are located
just a bit South of Pamplin Grove and would make a great day trip.

Headwaters Forest
Public access to the Headwaters Forest Reserve is extremely limited. There are only two ways to access the reserve. The Elk River Trailhead from the North (About 1 hour North of Pamplin Grove - Take the Elk River exit off of Highway 101 North and follow signs) and the Salmon Pass Trailhead from the South. (About 20 minutes West of Pamplin Grove)
The Elk River trail offers an 11 mile round trip hike, which leads past the remains of Falk, CA an abandoned logging town and ends at the turn around point (5.5 miles) in a small old-growth grove. This trail is open year round to hikers for day use only. (Allow 4-6 hrs. hiking time)
The Salmon Pass trail is accessible only through a BLM guided hike, limited to 20 people and is offered from May through November. (Allow 2 hrs. & make reservations beforehand)
